Pittsburgh @ Atlanta: In 19th Inning, Umpire Makes Controversial Call

Ohhhh boy. It sure looks like he made the tag. Click the photo for the clip and some rightfully angry announcers. Also, notice the hitter (who was also the ATL pitcher), Scott Proctor, fall almost immediately after hitting the ball. Trouble running much?)

What the umpire, Jerry Meals, had to say afterwards: “I saw the tag, but he looked like he oléd him, and I called him safe for that,” Meals said. “I looked at the replays and it appeared he might have got him on the shin area. I’m guessing he might have got him, but when I was out there when it happened, I didn’t see a tag.” – via MLB.

Hey Major League Baseball, can we step it up on using instant replay for reviews? Looking at you too, soccer. Blown calls by officials in any professional sport live on for eternity, let alone can stay negatively on someone’s mind for their lifetime. Granted, another team and their fan base always benefits from a blown call..
