This title changes hands a few times every decade, and the Bugatti Veyron has just reclaimed it. Bugatti’s latest model, the 16.4 Super Sport (1200hp), set the latest land speed record at 267.81 mph on July 4th, 2010, at the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group at Ehra-Lessien (near the headquarters at Wolfsburg). The original Veyron topped out at 253 mph (1001hp). 30 Grand Sports will be produced at a cost of $1.8 million each.
